We woke up at 11am this morning and by the time we slowly got ready it was already noon so we directly went for lunch. I ordered fried shrimp roll with rice and the lady was so nice! She noticed that we weren't from Taiwan and asked me if I was from Japan to which I replied, "No I'm from Canada :)"
After lunch we went to the local Family Mart to hang out and enjoy the air conditioning. The Thailand guy just arrived two days ago and he is another fellow member of our project!

We spent hours talking and discussing on how to improve the state of our project and got some progress. Hopefully it works out and the following weeks will be better.
In the evening we went back to the local community college for night lessons. Tonight we talked to a teacher who knows about the art of the lion dance from its performance to the creation of the masks. We all learnt a lot from him.
For example, I never knew before that the face of the lion has three "mountains" (forehead, nose, chin) and the four corners of its mouth symbolizes the oceans. He said that the origin of the lion was one night an empress dreamt of the lion then drew it out and asked her people to find this creature.
The lion dance originated from inside the Chinese emperor's palace and slowly evolved to become part of common people's lives. Now we only see lion dances during Chinese New Year and when new stores are opened by Chinese owners.
Of course there must be more food photos for dinner! I tried this fried fish in thick soup with rice noodles. It was pretty delicious and very flavourable with garlic.
